Track of the day - April 2nd

Mid way through the music leg of SXSW I hit the inevitable point of exhaustion that comes from too much free beer and too little sleep.  Scanning through the music pocket guide I found I'd a couple of early afternoon hours with no bands highlighted to check out so figured I'd head along to a venue I'd not yet been to and see who happened to be playing.

The Terror Pigeon Dance Revolt proved to be the perfect SXSW pick-up!

The acid punk band from New York took audience participation to the extreme - wearing fancy dress was mandatory for all and the band duly produced a huge duffel bag full of a variety of items to ensure no-one missed out.

Midway through the set frontman Neil Fridd encouraged the small midday crowd to follow him away from the stage and sang without microphone before rushing back to the stage to join drummer and guitarist in perfect timing.

Returning to the duffel back the band produced a homemade parachute (the kind you might remember from PE classes at school?). Without having to be asked twice everyone in the room clambered underneath the assortment of stitched together bedsheets and other material to form a mini VIP tent in the middle of the bar.

At around 25 minutes it was a short but highly energetic set which ended with the song Grouphug.  Which of course was performed with everyone, band and barstaff included, having a group hug.

A band I probably wouldn't have listened to before but having experienced them live I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for a London gig in the near future.
